The happy prince never experienced sorrow when he was alive. He lived in a castle where sorrow was not allowed to enter. After his death, the people made a statue out of him and raised on a tall column. This enabled him to see the sufferings of his people. He felt very bad that he couldn't help his people. He then, with the help of the sallow, helped other people by giving them the precious stones and metals that were used to decorate his statue.
