Answer:

Cotton first cultivated as a fabric in the Indus River Valley (present-day Pakistan). 2500 B.C. - Chinese, Egyptian and South American civilisations begin weaving cotton fabrics.

The antiquity of cotton in the Indian subcontinent has been traced to the 4th millennium BC. The fabrics dated approximately 3000 BC, recovered from the Mohenjo-daro excavations in Sind (Pakistan), were identified to have originated from cotton plants, closely related to the Gossypium arboreum species.

Although the cotton plant is thought to have initially grown wild in East Africa, it was first cultivated in the country now known as Pakistan where its early uses were as a textile for clothing, bindings for sandals and harnesses for elephants.
