Helen Keller was born in the small town of Tuscumbia, Alabama.  It was located in the northern part of the state.  She was born on June 27th in the year 1880.

 Her father was Arthur H. Keller, a Confederate captain turned newspaper editor.  He had been married with children previously, before he had become a widower.  Later, he married the young Kate Adams.  With Kate, they had Helen.
