The Forest Research Institute or Imperial Forest Research Institute was founded in the year 1878, at Chandbagh. This Institute was founded by Sir Dietrich Brandis.
After a few years, the Forest Research Institute was shifted from its then location to its present location in Dehradun in the year 1923.
The establishment of this Institute was for the research field in forestry because the wood was an essential at that time. At present Imperial Forest Research Institute is one of the National Heritage sites.
