In India, the first printing press was established in the mid-sixteenth century in Goa.
The printing machine was bought by the Portuguese missionaries and was established in the state of Goa. Then, after many old books and manuscripts were printed with the help of it and the list is as follows:
• In 1579, the first Tamil book was printed in Cochin by the Catholic priests.
• During 1674, about "50 books" were printed in "Konkani and Kannada" language by Jesuit priests.
• The Dutch protestant has printed around "32 Tamil texts" in 1710.
