Largely by 1950 itself when the drafted constitution of India came into effect
because the founding fathers of the constitution of India envisaged a country where none is discriminated on the basis of religion, caste, creed or gender.
Secularism in India means equal treatment of all religions by the state. With the 42nd Amendment of the Constitution of India enacted in 1976, the Preamble to the Constitution asserted that India is a secular nation. However, neither India's constitution nor its laws define the relationship between religion and state.
India is a secular state becoz....
1.there is no discrimination of religions by the government or the constitution
2.government cannot interface between any religious issues or any religion cannot be deprived of its certain rights ........
