The Cripps mission arrived in India on 22nd March, 1942.
The reasons-
1. It was the World War 2 period and Japan's entry into the war on Germany' side was a great concern to the British.
2. Britain worry increased when the Japanese troops overran Malaysia, Phillipines ,and occupied Burma. They marched towards Assam.
3. The British then needed the help of the Indians in their war against the Japanese. To convince the leaders in India to lend Britain resources and manpower, Cripps Mission was sent to India to please the Indian leaders.
Proposals-
1. After the war,India would be given the same status as that of other dominions.
2. A Constituent Assembly would be set up.
3. It proposed interim Government to be formed after the war.
4. Only defence of India would remain under the control of the British government.
5. Provisions were to be made for protection of racial and religious minorities.
