Indentured labour referred to a system of bonded labourer where a labourer is bound by a contract to work for an employer for a specific period of time. These labourers were hired through a contract which promised their return to native land after serving five years for the employer. But such promises at time turned out to be false. The workers were exposed to extremely cruel conditions of living. They were a times abused and assaulted by the employers.
Hence, it was severely criticised and finally abolished in 1921.
