The bt toxin protein exist as inactive protoxin but once insects ingest the inactive toxin it is converted into a active form of toxin due to alkaline Ph of the gut which solubilise the crystal.

The activated toxin binds to the surface of midgut epithelial cells and creates a pores that causes cell swelling and lysis and eventually couse death of the insects.
