EXPERIMENT NO 1.
MATERIALS
Sofdriks (coke) Dropper Vinegar Milk (yakult) Litmus paper Beer Ampalaya fruit Distilled water Calamasi
PROCEDURE:
1. Prepare the materials that needed in experiment.
2. Using dropper, get a little amount of coke, vinegar, milk, beer, and distilled water then drop to red and blue litmus paper. Record the result. 3. Squeeze the calamsi, using the dropper get a little amount of liquid then drop to red and blue litmus paper. Record the result. 3. Slice amplaya fruit and squeeze it, using dropper get a little amount of liquid then drop to red and blue litmus paper. Record the result.
FLOW CHART
DROPS
LITMUS PAPER
TURNS
OBSERVATION
When the materials (coke, vinegar, calamnsi, milk, beer, ampalaya and distilled water) drops little amount of liquid to the blue litmus paper, it turns to color pink. Using also the same materials, drops a little amount of liquid to the pink litmus paper the color was remain the same.
SUMMARY
To detect an acid, the scientists use indicators. Litmus is one indicator. An acid turns blue, litmus red. Acids are a group of chemicals with very similar properties. An acid is a sour-tasting substance. Lemons taste sour because they contain citric acid. The sour milk contains lactic acid while the sour taste of vinegar is due to acetic acid. Acetic acid, which is an ingredient of vinegar, releases only a limited number of ions and is not a strong acid. All these are weak acids. This is the reason why it can be used safely in our food.
