when calcium metal is added to water hydrogen gas is evolved and the same gas is evolved when sodium is added to water. this because of different quantities of hydrogen gas produced .when sodium reacts with water large amount of hydrogen gas is produced which causes fire . but when calcium reacts with water it produces small amount of hydrogen
