A constellation is a group of stars that forms an imaginary outline or pattern on the celestial sphere, typically representing an animal, mythological person or creature, a god, or an inanimate object. The origins of the earliest constellations likely go back to prehistory. Proper Motion is the apparent angular motion of a star across the sky with respect to more distant stars. This is the projection onto the sky of the star's true motions through space relative to the Sun.

Due to the doppler effect, the lines periodically shift from their basic position, because two stars are periodically approaching and receding from us while they cicle around each other.
