this is because C act reducing agent and reduced lime water which turns it milky

When Carbon dioxide is passed through lime water it turns milky because of the formation of calcium carbonate which is white in colour .
Ca ( OH )2 + CO2 --- Ca Co3 (White ) + H2O
Ca ( OH )2 + CO2 --- Ca Co3 (White ) + H2O
