This white precipitate gives the lime water its milky appearance. Carbon dioxide gas turns lime water milky.Carbon dioxide reacts withcalcium hydroxide(lime water) to formcalcium carbonate , due to which it becomes milky. However, on passing excess of carbon dioxide milkiness disappears.
