It depends on how many moles you had taken. According to Avagadro hypothesis, 6.023 × 10 ^ 23 particles in one mole. If you mix 32 gram methanol and 18 gram water. then you will have 50 gram methanol water mixture. ( According to law of conservation of mass)

This 50 gram homogeneous mixture will have Avagadro number of methanol and avagadro number of water. Hydrogen bond exists between both.

Other reasons:

Methanol ( CH3 OH ) is an organic compound which has only one alkyl group.

Reason 1 : Alkyl group is hydro phobic. It means larger the alkyl group, lesser the solubility in water. Smaller the alkyl group, larger the solubility in water.

Reason 2 : Hydrogen bond is the bond between hydrogen and highly electro negative atoms like oxygen. It is an extra bond in addition to covalent bond. So it gives extra strength. So, water and methanol miscible completely.

Reason 3 : If you add salt in water, level of water will not rise because salt occupies only interstitial positions in water. But, if you add methanol in water, its level will increase. This shows that they are not occupying interstitial positions but mixing with each others.
