when crystals of ferrous sulphate is heated it loses water of crystallisation and changes its colour. on further heating ferrous sulphate decomposes to ferric oxide with evolution of two gases containing sulpher.
answer the following question.
(a) write down the formulae for crystalline ferous sulphate.
(b) how many molecules of water of crystallisation in present in the crystalline ferrous sulphate.
(c) identify the two gases.
(d) write down the balanced chemical equation for the reaction.
(e) predict the type of reaction.

here is your answer !

when the Crystal of ferrous sulphate is heated get lost the water of crystallization and change into colour on further heating ferrous sulphate decomposition to ferric oxide with the evolution of 2 gas containing sulphur.

here is overall reaction that taken place in the above statement : -

a ) the crystalline ferrous sulphate is

FeSO4 .7H20 ( ferrous sulphate green in colour ) .

b ) there is 7 molecule of water of crystallisation present in ferrous sulphate.

d ) FeSO4 .7H20 ===∆===> FeSO4 + H20

{ there is formation of anhydrous ferrous sulphate which is generally colourless }

now ,

on further heating we get ferrous sulphate
( FeSO4 )

now again on further heating we get

FeSO4 ===∆= ==> Fe2O3 + SO2 + So3

there is formation of Sulphur dioxide and sulphur trioxide gases these are poisonous gases and it is of generally are smelling like sulphur that is :- rotten egg .

there is formation of ferric oxide which is generally brown in colour.

c ) SO2 & SO3

e ) this is thermal decomposition reaction of ferrous sulphate crystals.

hope it helps you dear !!

thanks
