If you are talking about conventional current, then viewed from the north the magnetic field lines will be clockwise and from the south anticlockwise.

I don’t think I have used the right hand rule for magnetic field lines in 40 years. Up until now.

But I use it quite frequently to work out which way to turn a screw or bolt. If you form a fist with your right hand and point your thumb is the direction you want the screw or bolt to move your fingers will be curled in the direction you need to rotate it.
