When Darwin wrote On the Origin of Species, he assumed, due to the fossil record, that species would not evolve quickly. Since that time, evolutionary theorists have documented examples of much more rapid evolutionary change. Now, how would we explain the long periods of relative consistency, with little change in some species that we see in the fossil record?

Evolution is an continuous nd slow process the characters which provides ability to survive better are chosen in this case so u can see that even today evolution is occuringg nd its alwyz a slow process the faster process is mutation which causes sudden changes

Palakkk: Evolution also depends on the situation its not necessary that it would ve very slow as conditions are changed much more than it were before which affects the rate of evolution also
