⇒Bismillah Khan got his big break in 1938. The All India Radio opened in Lucknow and Bismillah Khan played shehnai on the radio for the first time. He then soon became an often heard player of shehnai on the radio.

⇒He became famous and was also the first person to greet the nation with his shehnai (played raag kafi) from the Red Fort on 15th August 1947. This was a historical even as it was on the occasion of India's independence from the British rule.
