Delhi was won over by the British after Badshah Shah Alam II lost Battle of Baxar to the British army. The British gained administrative and revenue powers directly and kingship indirectly. But after the British crushed the Revolt of 1857, the British gained absolute control over Delhi with no Mughal to claim any title.
