India to ratify Kyoto Protocol on climate change; Cabinet approves the move. The Union Cabinet - India's highest decision making body - on Tuesday gave its approval to ratify the second commitment period (2013-2020) of the 1997 Kyoto Protocol on containing the emission of Green House Gases (GHGs).

The Kyoto Protocol was adopted in Kyoto, Japan, in December 1997 and entered into force in February 2005. The first commitment period under the Kyoto Protocol was from 2008-2012. The Doha Amendment to the Kyoto Protocol was adopted in Qatar in December 2012
