when did the authors companion find out that the boys were brothers

I think the narrator and his companion discovered that the two boys Nicola and Jacopo were brothers, when the author saw those two boys the next day polishing shoes. After that the two boys were with them only, like for showing them the city etc. At the time of polishing shoes , they talked to each other.
