Election came in India through Britishers by the Indian Council Act of 1892.
This act states that the act made the limited and indirect provision for the use of election in filling up some of the non-official seats both in the Central and provincial legislative councils.
Further seats increased through Morley Minto reform 1909. Upto here indirect elections took place.
For the first time in 1919 , bicameralism and direct elections in the country was introduced. The Indian legislative council was replaced by a bicameral legislature consisting of an Upper house and lower house. Here majority of members of both the houses were choosen by direct elections
