The Iraq-US war, also known as the second gulf war began on the 19th of March 2003, when then sitting President of the United States, George W Bush, set a pretext of the war by blaming Saddam hussain for having weapons of mass destruction.
Most countries were not in favour of attacking Iraq and only a handful of countries, namely Britain and Spain were initially with the US in this quest. This group was known as the coalition of Willing.
France, famously decided not to proceed and got a lot of bad publicity in the united states with some people even resorting to renaming 'French' fries as 'Freedom Fries'

Iraq-US war :-
In the morning of 19th March, the US and its allies initiated the invasion of Iraq. On April 9th, US forces officially occupied Baghdad and on December 13th the same year, Saddam Hussein, the former dictator of Iraq was captured while hiding in a cellar in the outskirts of Tikrit.
After the first Gulf War in 1991, Iraq was obliged by the United Nations to get rid of all its biological and toxic weapons. This Security Council resolution also demanded the restoration of Kuwait's independence and the implementations of sanctions against Iraq. The United Nations Special Commission performed inspections in Iraq to make sure that the conditions of the peace agreement that followed the first Gulf War were carried out. The weapon inspectors were thrown out of the Iraq in December 1998, which led to Operation Desert Fox, a three day bombing campaign on Iraqi targets. The mission was to strike military and security targets in Iraq that contributed to the country's ability to produce, store, maintain and deliver weapons of mass destruction. The inspectors were not let back into Iraq until November 2002.
On March 19th, 2003 US forces started invading Iraq and Saddam Hussein was captured by US forces in Tikrit. Saddam Hussein was convicted of charges of crimes against humanity on November 5th, 2006. Later on 30th December 2006, Saddam Hussein was sentenced to death by hanging.
