PARAMECIUM

When didinium and paramecium are in same beaker, didinium engulf all the paramecia and then didinium die of starvation. Here, Paramecium is the prey while didinium is the predator.

GETTING TO KNOW MORE ABOUT PARAMECIUM:

* Paramecium, also known as paramecia, are single-celled protists that live in aquatic environments. They are usually oblong or slipper-shaped, with small hairy projections called cilia covering them.

* Certain paramecia strains are also easy to cultivate in the lab and can be utilised as model organisms (a non-human species used to understand biological processes).

* According to "The Biology of Paramecium, 2nd Ed," paramecia cells have an extended appearance and are separated into two types depending on this shape: aurelia and bursaria (Springer, 1986).

* The morphological kind of aurelia is oblong or "cigar" shaped, with a tapering posterior end. Bursaria, on the other hand, refers to "slipper" shaped cells. They are usually shorter and have a rounded back end.
