Carbonate reacts with acid to produce salts, water and carbon dioxide

CuCO3 + 2HCl → H2O + CO2 + CuCl2

When it reacts bubbles of carbon dioxide is produce if you want to test it put a glowing splinter in the tube and when the glowing splint stop “burning” it means it has carbon dioxide in the tube.
