Chromatin fibres contract and condense and get formed into chromosomes when the time comes for cell division .

This process of cell division is known as mitosis. The condensation of chromatin fibres into sister chromatids is known to begin to occur in the prophase , gradually moving on to the metaphase. The nucleolis vanishes during this time.
