Social divisions are likely to take place in a society under the following circumstances:

1.When people belonging to diverse communities in a society fail to follow the principle of tolerance and mutual understanding.

2.When a particular community faces negligence and discrimination on racial or communal grounds.

3.When a particular community faces discrimination since age old times on the grounds of class or caste distinctions.

A good example of social division is the Dalits in India who have been facing discrimination and injustice because of belonging to a lower caste and also due to low economic position in the society.

Another example of social division is the racial discrimination faced by the Blacks in US for which the had fight.
