The high and low tide are caused by the gravitational forces between the earth and the moon.

Although the gravitational pull of the sun on the earth is larger than that of the moon, due to the much greater distance, the force changes very little from one end of the earth to the other.

Since it is the difference in the force than the average magnitude of the force that matters for creating tides, the net effect is much less than that for the moon.

➙ Tides are the rise & fall of sea levels caused by the combined effects of the gravitational forces exerted by the Moon & the Sun & the rotation of the Earth.

Some shorelines experience two almost equal high tides & two low tides each day, called a semi-diurnal tide.

❖ This cycle can happen once or twice a day depending on the location of the area to the Moon.

❖ A particularly high tide (Spring tide) occurs when these two bodies are in line and both pull in the same direction.

Thanks!!!
