A 'dilemma' is a situation that involves making a difficult choice between two or more situations, especially when all are equally undesirable.
Therefore, a person in such a sition is said to be in a dilemma.
The classic 'trolley problem' is an excellent example of a dilemma: You see a speeding train trolley on a forking railway track heading directly towards a group of 5 oblivious individuals. You can operate a lever beside you that can divert the track, but will end up killing a loved one tied on the second track if you do so.
