While walking, one foot is in contact with the ground at a time. Surface area of one foot is less than two feet. Therefore, pressure is more than the pressure exerted while standing, as surface area of both feet is more.

If a large force is applied to an area , it creates a greater pressure than if a small force is applied over the same area . Thus , when a heavier person walks , he / she exerts a greater pressure on the ground than a smaller person with the same shoe size and shape
