early chemistry was concerned with pottery and dyes not likely as elements etc as we are dealing with it now.The basic ideas of element and compound were first given by the Greek philosophers during the period from 500 to 300 B.C.
General principal was that , there were only 4 elements fire ,water ,air and the earth and they combined to form all things. Principles of chemistry were understood in 3500 B.C in Egypt.
