DNA polymerase is an enzyme, which is responsible for formation of new daughter DNA strands from parent DNA molecule during DNA synthesis.
Cells can become mutant if errors during replication are not corrected. Along with polymerization activity, DNA polymerase also has 3' to 5' exonuclease activity. During DNA synthesis, when an incorrect nucleotide gets inserted in daughter strand of DNA, DNA polymerase goes back by one nucleotide pair, excises the mismatched nucleotide and repairs error.
Thus, the DNA polymerase checks for mutations at the time of DNA replication.
