In apomixis, egg cells are produced by mitosis. In apomictic parthenogenesis, the female sex cell (oocyte) replicates by mitosis producing two diploid cells. These cells have the full complement of chromosomes needed to develop into an embryo. The resulting offspring are clones of the parent cell.

Explanation:

Usually, individual organisms are formed by the fertilization of male and female gamete.

The process in which an individual organism is formed without fertilization is called parthenogenesis.

The natural parthenogenesis can be of two types haploid or diploid.

Haploid: The egg is formed by meiosis (n).

Eg: drones ( formed by unfertilized eggs) - 16 chromosomes

Diploid: The egg is formed by mitosis. As a result, the eggs formed are diploid in nature(2n). The resulting offsprings are clones of the parent organism.

   Eg: lizards, beetle, etc.
