Answer:

Silver turning grey :-

First of all Silver nitrate is made in large quantities by dissolving silver in nitric acid.

It is easily synthesized by metathesis: combining an aqueous solution of silver nitrate (which is soluble) with a soluble chloride salt, such as sodium chloride or cobalt(II) chloride. The silver chloride that forms will precipitate immediately.

Silver chloride which is white colour turns to grey colour silver due to decomposition reaction which occur in presence of sunlight. Such reactions are called as Photo chemical reactions.

Silver turning black :-

Silver turns black when kept in the air because silver article reacts with sulphur compounds such as hydrogen sulphide (H2S) present in air. The phenomenon is called corrosion. For silver particularly, it is called tarnishing of silver.

Hope it helped :)

Answer:

❥ Silver becomes black because of hydrogen sulfide (sulfur), a substance that occurs in the air. When silver comes into contact with it, a chemical reaction takes place and a black layer is formed.
