On the days of Equinox (VE on March 21 & AE on Sptember 23) the Sun directly is on the Equator without any slant. A vertical rod in the open will not cast any shadow of the (local) noon Sun on those days only. Every day of the year is Equinox (day & night equal at 12 hours each round the year) on Equator.
