If fertilization occurs, the 2nd meiotic division produces a second polar body and an OVUM. The fusion of the 2 nuclei cannot occur until the second polar body is released, and the secondary oocyte must mature into an ootid and then an ovum. Then the nuclei fuse to form a zygote....
