heat produced in the conductor, H ∝ i²Rt

from Joule's law of heating,

when electric current passing through a metallic conductor of resistance R for time t, heat produced in the conductor depends on,

  • current ; heat is directly proportional to square of current passing through conductor.
  • resistance ; heat is directly proportional to resistance of conductor
  • time, heat is directly proportional to time.

i.e., H ∝ i²Rt

H = i²Rt, [ proportionality constant = 1]

hence, heat produced in the conductor is given as i²Rt
