Ethanol with a large quantity of excess concentrated sulphuric acid on heating to 170°Cproduces ethene. Ethanol undergoes dehydration when treated with Conc H2SO4. At this temperatures, each molecule of alcohol loses a water molecule and give ethene as a product (C2H4).
