Good question from C.H.S Exam !!

First know about reactants ...

Sodium :- A metal belongs to group no.1.and period no.3.

It is very reactive metal due to 1 valence electron in its last cell .

E.C.=> 2,8,1

Characteristics of sodium!!

1) It is very reactive metal belongs to alkali group.

2) It is kept in kerosene .

3) Get oxidised and catches fire when kept open or in water.

4) It has atomic no.-11,atomic mass:-23.

Ethanol:- An organic compound having functional group OH-.

Also known as Ethyl alcohol (C2H5OH).

Characteristics of ethanol!!

1) It is highly inflllamable liquid .

2) It is neutral in nature.

3) it act as good solvent and miccible with water.

4) It is used in making wine and spirits lamps.

Now Come to reaction,

C2H5OH (l) + Na(s) => C2H4ONa(aq.) + H2 (g)

From above reaction we concluded that Hydrogen gas is evolved .
