Ferrous sulfate crystals are green in color. It is present in hydrated form and when it is heated, the hydrated ferrous sulfate forms anhydrous ferrous sulfate which is white in color. On strong heating, the products obtained are ferric oxide, sulfur dioxide and sulfur trioxide.
