When forward bias is applied to a P-N junction, then what happens to the potential barrier VB, and the width of charge depleted region x​

In a forward bias PN junction:

  • The positive terminal of the battery is connected with the p side while the negative side is connected by the n side.
  • The voltage applied in a forward bias PN junction opposes the potential barrier VB which in case reduces the potential barrier VB thereby reducing the width of the depletion region of the PN junction.
