When the fused lead bromide is electrolysed, the formation of silver - coloured substance ( also referred as silver-grey ) at the cathode along with the emission of reddish-brown gases ( also called fumes ) at anode is observed.
- Electrolysis is the process in which, with the application of electricity, several electrolytes are splitted to produce elements.
- During the electrolysis of fused lead bromide, the movement of negative ions ( also called anions ) to anode is observed.
- The room temperature is not enough for meeting the requirements of lead bromide in order to conduct the electricity, the temperature must be around 370°C.
- For this reason, molten lead bromide is chosen for the process of electrolysis.
