  • When H_2S gas is passed through an acidified solution of K_2Cr_2O_7 the solution becomes milky due to formation of sulfur.
  • The chemical equation for the following reaction is as follows: 3H_2S + 8HCl + K_2Cr_2O72CrCl_3 + 7H_2O + 3S + KCl
  • So, from the above chemical reaction it can be seen that sulfur (S) is formed as one of the products which is responsible for making the solution milky whereas the formation of chromyl chloride i.e. CrCl_3 gives green color.
