When hg (mercury) is added to aqueous solution of KI(potassium Iodide) there is an increase in osmotic pressure of solution due to following reasons:
- The number of non- volatile solute particle or ratio of their concentration on which the collagative property depends .
- Osmotic pressure is one of the collagative property.
- Number of solute particles increases when mercury dissociates into Hg2+, and 2I− when mercury is added in solution of KI.
- Another reason is that the solution freezing point is raised. There is a decrease in the solution's number of ions due to the formation of complex.
