When hydrochloric acid is added to sodium hydroxide solution, sodium chloride and water are formed.

(1) Name the reaction

(2) What changes will be observed when

(i) a strip of blue litmus paper is added to it

(ii) a strip of red litmus paper is added to it

(3) A test tube is filled with solution (x). When few drops of phenolphthalein are

added to this solution (x) , the solution turns pink. Identify whether the given

Answer:1 the reaction is neutralization reaction.

Explanation:because HCL is acid and NaOH is a base. when acid and base reacts it forms salt and water i.e. NaCl and H20.

2.i. no change is seen in blue litmus paper because the product is neutral.

ii. no change is seen in red litmus paper because the product is neutral.

3. the solution is basic if it turns pink cuz phenolphthalein doesnt change its colour when it reacts with acid.
