Heat is evolved

Hydrochloric acid(HCl) is an acid and Sodium hydroxide(NaOH) is a base. Thus when HCl reacts with NaOH the temperate suddenly increases and a large amount of heat is evolved because both the HCl and NaOH are strong acid and base respectively. Thus the reaction is an exothermic reaction. The reaction can be justified as:-

NaOH + HCl ----------> NaCl + H20 + Heat

(base) (acid) (salt) (water)
