when I multiply a number by 5 and add 10 to the product and divide this sum by 8 first get a number which is one less then the number

Say the number is X

Now we multiply it by 5 and get 5X

. Now adding 10 we get 5X+10

And divided by 8

We finally get (5X+10)/8

This is equal to One less then x i.e

=> ((5X + 10)/8) = (X-1)

Or, 5X+10=8X-8

Or, X=18/3=6
