When i went up to university , I was given a room of my own. The common link of friendship

was snapped. My grandmother accepted her seclusion with resignation She rarely left her

spinning wheel to talk to anyone. From sunrise to sunset she sat by her wheel spinning and
reciting prayers. Only in the afternoon she relaxed for a while to feed the sparrows. While she
sat in the verandah breaking the bread into little bits, hundreds of little birds collected round
her creating a veritable bedlam of chirruing

Answer:

  1. When the narrator went to the university, his grandmother spent most of her time with the wheel spinning. She used to spin from sunrise to sunset she sat on wheel spinning. After going to university, the narrator got his own room and space.
  2. The meaning of the phrase “accepted her seclusion with resignation” is that she has accepted her loneliness without any complaints.
  3. Grandmother preferred to spend time at the spinning wheel.
  4. When did the grandmother enjoy the sounds of the birds; While reciting her prayers.

Explanation:

She sat at her spinning-wheel reciting prayers. She hardly talked to anyone. In the afternoon, she would feed the sparrows. This was her only pastime.  The narrator wanted to go on a 'round-the-world' voyage by following captain James Cook's route. He started from Plymouth in England, sailed towards Africa's Cape town and finally set towards Australia. He wanted to repeat the voyage sailed by a sailor, James Crook 200 years ago as he had always dreamed of it.

Accepted her seclusion with resignation' means that the authors grandmother took her loneliness without any complains. She spent her days of loneliness by engaging herself in the reciting prayers, feeding the sparrows and wheel-spinning activity.  The sole reason was because although the grandmother was not literate but she wanted her grandson to receive the best education , it was all because of love she accepted everything that came into her life.

To keep herself busy she used to spent her time on spinning wheel ,she also keep her mind busy in prayers ,and in the after noon she spent time to feed the sparrows and watching them playing or chirping.

His grandmother spent time with her spinning wheel. From sunrise to sunset she sat by her wheel spinning and reciting prayers. In the afternoon, she relaxed for a while to feed the sparrows. She spent her days circling the wheel and singing lovely prayers. When the author grew up and started going to the city school, the grandmother was no longer able to go along with him. Thus, she spun the wheel and did prayers silently to cut time. She also spent time sitting in the Verandah and feeding sparrows.
