Indentured servants were taken to American colonies from the 1600s to the late 1700s. It was mostly the poor Europeans, who were taken this way to work in the American colonies.

Indentured servants consisted of men, women and children, who signed a contract with a master, to work for them from 4 – 7 years. The employer can sell them to a third party during this period, if he so wishes. In return they received paid passage to the American colony, food, clothing and shelter upon their arrival in America.
